Elton John's Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Roadster auctions in Oxford, UK

This red 1965 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2-Litre Roadster once belonged to Sir Elton John, and it's going under the hammer at a Collectors' Motor Cars and Automobilia sale in Oxford on March 3.

The car is estimated to sell for £50,000-70,000 and was bought by Sir Elton in 1987.

Sir Elton used to refer to the E-Type as 'OK Elton' due to its number plate OKE 1. The plate was worn throughout his ownership, and will be sold with the car in the UK auction.

The 1965 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2-Litre Roadster

The E-Type is often regarded as being the zenith of its marque since it was first produced in 1961. The car was a successor to the XK Jaguar, while its design and style echoed the successful D-Type.

This car's bodywork was further slimmed and refined. The result is one of the world's most attractive cars, and an icon of the 1960s.

What's more, in many people's eyes, the Series 1 4.2-litre is the best E-Type of them all.

Even without its celebrity provenance, you can bet that a car like this would do well at auction. Watch this space for more news on the sale.
