Classic Porsche 356s auction for $96,000 apiece

Two Porsche 356s have shone at a major classic car auction in East Anglia, UK.

A 1963 Porsche 356 Super 90 Cabriolet and 1959 Porsche 356B Roadster each sold for £61,950 ($95,969) at Anglia Car Auctions on August 24, both within estimate.

Despite its later manufacture date, the 1963 example at auction equalled the 1959's price due to its matching numbers engine.

The two left hand drive vehicles were among 30 classic Porsches consigned to the auction by a private collector. They made £500,000 ($775,051) in total. A further 170 will feature over forthcoming auctions.

"The vehicles have been well kept, with many still in working order," the auction house's Rob George told EDP24.

Porsches are regarded as among the most undervalued classic cars on the market - offering plenty of potential to classic car investors. What's more, the Historic Auto Group's HAGI price index reveals that values of classic Porsches are up by 21.8% since the start of the year - although this figure is below the 34.3% rise offered by the corresponding Ferrari index.

Jonathan Kaiser, from London classic car dealer Hexagon Classics, told Investors Chronicle recently that the Porsche 930, which is generally available for less than £50,000 ($77,483) "has to be a £200,000 ($309,935) car one day".

Away from the Porsches, a 1971 Jaguar E-type 4.2 Series II Roadster realised £46,200 ($71,566), while a 1968 Mercedes Pagoda made £44,100 ($68,313).
