The car was designed primarily for luxury hotels, to give visitors a fun way to shuttle to and from the beach. Others were given to car dealers in the US to promote the introduction of the latest Mini.
Only 15 were made.
One was presented to the Queen who used it around Windsor Castle. The Daily Express reported: "The Queen, a knowledgeable motorist, doubtless enjoys travelling in this unconventional little vehicle as much as she does in her Rolls."
A Ferrari 250 MM was the lead lot of the sale, acheiving $7.2m.
