In Maranello, where Ferrari was born and bred, a Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa has broken the world record for a Ferrari at auction.
The previous record had been set by a 1961 250 Gran Turismo owned by James Coburn and sold to British DJ Chris Evans.
The new record holder is one of just 21 of its exact kind made (compared to 36 of the GT), the fourth Testa Rossa built and the second customer-owned.
It is in superb condition, and black-with-red colours seize the attention.
The bidding actually started a little sluggishly, with no one taking the €5 million opener, and the auctioneer dropping to €4 million.
That changed sharply, with €4.5m, €5m, €5.5m, €6m and €6.5m sped through in under a minute.
The man occupying the driving seat rippled his eyebrows, but the crowd stayed quiet...
The bidding paused as phones were consulted.
As the €7m bid came through a round of applause broke out.
€7.5m followed swiftly...
...but when €8m was sought it seemed nowhere to be found.
€7.6m was offered and then €7.7m.
More discussion on the phones followed.
At €7.8m another smattering of applause was heard and again at €7.9m - perhaps as encouragement towards the next million.
The audience went a little quiet.
The auctioneer asked for €8m in a slightly hushed tone, and nearly missed it when it came back.
The crowd clapped and cheered.
€8.1m followed but €8.2m wasn't to be found.
An awkward bid of €8.175m came instead.
When €8.2m was offered from a phone on the auctioneer's right, it became clear it was all over.
With the slow count of 3 he concluded the sale to great cheers and applause.
With Buyer's Premium, the bidder paid €9,020,000 ($12.1 million or £8.02m), a hefty €1,980,000 over the previous record.
