Description
- A red, #10 Wales rugby shirt, match-worn by Wales fly half Phil Bennett vs. Canada in 1973.
A hugely rare piece of Welsh rugby history. Bennett match-worn jerseys rarely appear for auction.
Wales won the game 58-20 in Toronto, Canada on June 9, 1973.
The shirt has some fading to the chest area and some small holes.
Fly-half Phil Bennett (1948-) was capped for Wales 29 times between 1969 and 1978 and is regarded as one the country’s finest players.
The Canada match took place just six months after Bennett’s most enduring moment in rugby. Bennett’s trademark sidestep began the move that resulted in the try widely regarded to be the game’s greatest: the second-minute score for the Barbarians vs the touring New Zealand team at Cardiff Arms Park in January 1973.
