21: King George VI signed photo in Royal black frame

Sale price£1,000,000
In stock

Estimate: £1,000 - £1,250

Hugely rare King George VI signed photo dated 1920 – when the prince was just 24.

The future king signs “Albert 1920'' in black ink on the border beneath an image of himself in a suit.

Housed in an official black leather frame with royal cipher.

The frame measures 23 x 17 cm and is in fair condition, with the expected wear from age.

George VI was known as “Bertie” within the family. Official “Albert” signatures from his pre-king days are rare.

Superb provenance: The Royal Family gifted the signed photo to Sir John Weir GCVO, a renowned doctor who was the Physician Royal for the British Royal Family from 1918 to 1971. Weir was Physician Royal to George V, Edward VIII, George VI and Elizabeth II. Ownership passed down by descent.
