Estimate: £1,100 - £1,400

Incredibly rare King George VI signed photo dated 1937 – the year of his coronation.

The king signs ''George R. I. / 1937'' in black ink on the border beneath an image of himself in full naval uniform.

Superb provenance: The Royal Family gifted the signed photo to Sir John Weir GCVO, a renowned doctor who was the Physician Royal for the British Royal Family from 1918 to 1971. Weir was Physician Royal to George V, Edward VIII, George VI and Elizabeth II. Ownership passed down by descent.

The photograph was taken by renowned portrait photographer Dorothy Wilding of London.

Housed In an extremely rare official silver frame with George’s royal “GI VI” cipher.

Frame measures 29 x 22 cm.

A truly stunning signed photo from a landmark year. The photo was captured and signed just months after George’s brother Edward VIII had abdicated the throne to marry Wallis Simpson.
