Description

Estimate: £1,000 - £1,250

Hugely rare King Edward VIII signed photo dated 1921 – when the prince was 26.

The future king signs “Edward P 1921'' in blue ink on the border beneath an image of himself in a suit.

Superb provenance: The Royal Family gifted the signed photo to Sir John Weir GCVO (1879-1971), a renowned doctor who was the Physician Royal for the British Royal Family from 1918 to 1971. Weir was Physician Royal to George V, Edward VIII, George VI and Elizabeth II. Ownership passed down by descent.

Housed in official black leather frame with royal cipher.

The frame measures 29 x 22 cm and is in good condition, particularly for its age.

Signed by Edward 15 years before he shocked the nation by abdicating the throne to marry Wallis Simpson.

Official signatures from Edward are rare.
