    1841 1d Red brown Plate 46. Very fine pre-paid entire addressed to Ballymoney as indicated by a red manuscript "1" alongside a Green "PAID AT/ COLERAINE" handstamp. This has then had a 1d red with good to huge four margins lettered SD, affixed with red sealing wax over the top of the original handstamp and beautifully tied by a crisp Coleraine "149" numeral. Backstamped at Coleraine for NO.19.1844. A very attractive and unusual cover.

    Great Britain 1841 red-brown, plate 38. Very fine used four margin example lettered HI tied to a clean unfolded entire letter by a crisp London No. 10 in Maltese Cross with a "TP Kings Rd. W.O." handstamp at left. Addressed to Birmingham and backstamped accordingly for SP.15.1843 with a London dispatch circular date stamp for the previous day. The cover really needs to be seen in the flesh to truly appreciate its level of quality and a philatelic gem. Accompanied with a Royal Philatelic Society (RPS) 2002 certificate of authenticity.     A superb unmounted original gum se-tenant block of four with reddish purple omitted, offered with normal for comparison.

    The missing colour affects just the bottom right stamp from the block resulting in the loss of flowers and leaf shading on the Red Campion and shading on the Wood Anemone.

    A very scarce QEII error. Pierron records only 30 mint blocks.

    Very fine unused original gum set of eight top marginal imperforate imprimaturs.

    The 1d lilac was the result of a major change in policy. It came from a desire to unify the functions of Postage and Revenue stamps. The 1881 1d lilac was the First Unified Stamp. The first imprimatur in the set was registered on 23 May 1881.

    The GB Queen Victoria Specialised Catalogue, last published in 2011, quotes the price for a single imprimatur at £420.

    A wonderful and scarce set to assemble of such fine quality.

    Exceptional quality for a Type I cover, and rare thus.

    The printed notice within is a decorative advertisement for the Welshpool Horticultural Society / First Exhibition / to be held on JU.23.1842.

    A very attractive and rare cover made an even more interesting piece of early British postal history virtue of its contents.
