Apart from the addressee, several clues indicate that this item emanates from Uganda; a recipient's docket 'dated up to July 30', a blue crayon '1' under the stamp, and a part violet forwarding Cover.     1841 1d Red brown Plate 46. Very fine pre-paid entire addressed to Ballymoney as indicated by a red manuscript "1" alongside a Green "PAID AT/ COLERAINE" handstamp. This has then had a 1d red with good to huge four margins lettered SD, affixed with red sealing wax over the top of the original handstamp and beautifully tied by a crisp Coleraine "149" numeral. Backstamped at Coleraine for NO.19.1844. A very attractive and unusual cover.

The cover really needs to be seen in the flesh to truly appreciate its level of quality and a philatelic gem. Accompanied with a Royal Philatelic Society (RPS) 2002 certificate of authenticity.     A superb unmounted original gum se-tenant block of four with reddish purple omitted, offered with normal for comparison.

    The missing colour affects just the bottom right stamp from the block resulting in the loss of flowers and leaf shading on the Red Campion and shading on the Wood Anemone.

    A very scarce QEII error. Pierron records only 30 mint blocks.

    A very fine used good to large four margin example lettered IG, neatly tied to a printed entire by a distinctive Welshpool Maltese Cross, sent from Welshpool to Churchstoke and backstamped accordingly by a Welshpool dispatch datestamp for UJ.2.1842.

    The printed notice within is a decorative advertisement for the Welshpool Horticultural Society / First Exhibition / to be held on JU.23.1842.

    A very attractive and rare cover made an even more interesting piece of early British postal history virtue of its contents.

    Accompanied with a 2009 British Philatelic Association (BPA) Certificate of Authenticity.

    Superb unused bottom left hand corner marginal example with manuscript endorsement to margin 'F' ½ Pruss' by Edwin Hill.

    These were produced to test various combinations of stamp and cancellation ink. The voided corners of State 3 are more uniform in shape compared with the ragged corners of States 1 and 2.

    Most attractive and scarce.

    Accompanied with a 1996 Royal Philatelic Society (RPS) Certificate of Authenticity.

    Falkland Islands 1900 (Oct) 1d carmine postal stationery envelope (issued in 1899, Heijtz E1) commercially used to "The Secretary, Prices Candle Company Ltd, 31 Threadneedle St, London E.C.".

    The stamp indicium cancelled only by a superb strike of the red "GOVERNMENT HOUSE/RECD' circular date stamp, with fixed date "8 DE 99"), and no further Falklands Islands dispatch mark. With London (x2) arrival circular date stamp (NO 13 00) on face and reverse.

    A very rare and desirable cover, being one of just three recorded covers with this administrative marking (Heijtz PSO.3) used as a cancellation (on correspondence from the Governor, W. Grey-Wilson, in office 1897-1904. Provenance: Ex. Stern (from Harmer Rooke 16/5/63, lot 145, and not seen on the market for over 50 years.
