    George III Military Guinea (1813)

    £3,500.00

GOLD. 1813 George III, Military Guinea. In 1813 a one- year type guinea was struck to pay Wellington's army on the Pyrenees, as the local populace would accept only gold for purchases.

The issue was 80,000 pieces, and the gold for the issue was imported from India in the form of gold mohur and pagodacoins.

The coin has become known as the 'military guinea' and was the last guinea to be struck. This particular coin isin EF condition and still possesses some of its original mint lustre.

  • Great Britain 1702-1714 Anne. Gold, Guinea, Half. Post Union Issue.

Great Britain 1702-1714 Anne. Gold, Guinea, Half. Post Union Issue.

    Ref No: S 3575.

Obv. Draped bust left, ANNA DEI GRATIA.

Rev. Crowned Royal Arms in cruciform sceptres in angles, garter cross in centre, MAG BRI FR ET HIN REF 1710. 22mm, 41.5g. GEF - Extremely Fine, considerable amounts of original mint bloom.

Very good example - little wear and much original mint bloom. Rare thus. After the Union of Crowns in 1707 the arms of England and Scotland are combined in the same shield twice (per pale) rather than as formerly, a shield for England and a shield for Scotland.

  • Great Britain 1727-1769 George II Crown. GEF
    v

    Paul Fraser Collectible

Great Britain 1727-1769 George II Crown. GEF

    £4,575.00

Great Britain Crown George II (1727-1760).

    Metal: Silver

Type: Milled - Old head, Roses

    Mint Mark: 1743 Decimo Septimo

Obverse: Laureate, cuirassed, draped old bust left.

Reverse: Cruciform crowned shields, roses in angles, legend - Hanovarian titles.

Superb condition piece - beautifully and evenly darkly tones with underlying lustre. Rare in this grade and difficult to better. The four roses in the angles between the shields on the reverse signify that the silver that this coin is made of, came from West Country mines. There are two different portraits used, the young head bust used from 1732 to 1741, followed by the oder bust (this coin) used from 1743 to 1751.

George was the last British Monarch born outside Great Britain and was born and brought up in Northern Germany. He was also the last British Monarch to lead an army in Battle - in 1743 at the battle of Dettingen. In 1745, supporters of the Catholic claimant to the British Throne, James Francis Edward Stuart (''''The Old Pretender''''), led by Jame's son Charles Edward Stuart (''''The Young Pretender'''' or ''''Bonnie Prince Charlie'''') attempted and failed to depose George in the last of the Jacobite rebellions. His son Frederick died unexpectedly in 1751 leaving George's grandson to become George III.
