China 1967 People's Republic China general issues Liu Ying-chun Commemoration set of 6, SG2335/40.
A very fine unmounted mint set with full original gum.
Liu Ying-chun was a soldier in an artillery unit of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. He died a hero by sacrificing himself to prevent his carriage and runaway horse from injuring a group of school children. When he refused to let go of the reins, the horse fell and he was pinned under the carriage resulting in life ending injuries.
Today, he remains something of a legend in Chinese culture as a demonstration of courage and a sense of duty. These stamps were issued in his memory and to those who honour acts of bravery.
