  • A hugely rare original 1967 poster advertising the first edition of the UK version of Oz magazine

 Underground magazine Oz ran in Australia from 1963 to1969 and the UK from 1967 to 1973. With its counterculture, anti-establishment ethos, it fell foul of the authorities. The British magazine’s editors were imprisoned on obscenity grounds in 1971, although later freed on appeal.

It advertises the first edition of the UK version of the publication,

The poster is designed by Australian pop artist Martin Sharp (1942-2013), who produced the cover art for the magazines. Sharp also designed the cover for Cream’s Disraeli Gears.

Features the words “London Oz is a new magazine”.

Because publication of Oz posters and magazines were clamped down on by authorities, examples of each are rare and highly sought after today. This poster in particular is extremely scarce.
