An original 1993 Michael Schumacher Benetton-Ford F1 racing team suit
- Likely worn by Schumacher worn during the July 1993 German Grand Prix race weekend at Hockenheim
Michael Schumacher is a former racing driver, best remembered for his phenomenal run with Ferrari between 1996 and 2006. He holds the record for the most F1 championship titles – seven between 1994 and 2004.
Before he was the invincible champion of motorsport, Michael Schumacher was a plucky up and coming driver with Benetton-Ford.
He likely wore this yellow team racing suit during the July 25, 1993 grand prix race weekend at Hockenheim, Germany. Likely during Friday practice or Saturday qualifying. Teams issued 3-4 suits for each race weekend.
It displays embroidered sponsors' patches and a belt with Schumacher's name and the German national flag.
"M.SCHUMACHER" is also inscribed on the interior. The garment features the usual wear for items of this type. The provenance is excellent. Schumacher personally gifted the piece to his then PR company, Extract.
The Hockenheim race was the 10th round of that season's Grand Prix.
Schumacher finished second, losing out to Williams-Renault driver Alain Prost. Schumacher finished the championship in fourth place.
This was the year before Schumacher's breakout as a racing driver. In 1994, he became World Champion for the first time.
