Malaya - Federated Malay States 1900 $25 green and orange, type 2 overprint on Perak, SG14.
A fine and fresh mint example with large part original gum and with exceptional colour. Much better centring than most of the few examples known.
A classic design of British Empire philately featuring elephants with the Howdah (the ornate carriage on the elephant’s back).
Choice quality for this key Malayan rarity and far superior to the 'Aat de Peijper' example which realised EUR 16,537 at auction.
The Federated Malay States consisted of the states of Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, and Selangor. In 1900 they produced an eight stamp issue overprinted on the stamps of Negri Sembilan and on six Perak stamps, which are much rarer.
The stamps of STRAITS SETTLEMENTS were used in Federated Malay States from 16 July 1900 to 31 December 1901.
