Sotheby's auctions the $5.8m 'Millennium' white diamond

It will sell alongside no less than 11 exceptionally rare blue diamonds in Hong Kong

Sotheby's Hong Kong is selling an exceptional and rare 5.16-carat, pear-shaped, internally flawless, fancy vivid, blue diamond from the renowned De Beers Millennium jewels collection.

What's more, it will be the first Millennium collection to ever appear at auction.

The sale of the collection will comprise 12 rare gems, which took decades to gather. They were presented by De Beers in 2000 to celebrate the dawn of the millennium.

The Millennium Star, a 203.04-carat, D-colour, flawless white diamond, is
the collection's centrepiece

Highlights in the Sotheby's sale will include the Millennium Star, a 203.04-carat, D-colour, flawless white diamond.

The Millenium Star is estimated to sell for between HK$36-46 million ($4.6-5.8m), and features as the centrepiece of the collection.
