Six-figure Prussian plate smashes Antiques Roadshow record

Having sat on Wendy Jones' shelf for years, TV experts have valued this dusty old plate at $160k

A British woman received at big $160k surprise when she appeared on the popular collectors' BBC television programme Antiques Roadshow, last week.

Wendy Jones had been hoping to have her rare book collection valued on the long-running TV show - and brought along a dusty old plate as an afterthought.

The unique plate had sat on Wendy's shelves for years, even dropping to the floor on one occasion.

So imagine her surprise when she was told that the 22 inch dish is in fact a highly valuable 260-year-old collectible.

According the Antiques Roadshow's expert, the historic plate was made for the King of Prussia himself as part of an exceptionally rare 100-piece dinner set.

The plate was manufactured by the Prussian East India Company in 1750

It is understood to have been manufactured by the Prussian East India Company for Frederick the Great of Prussia, way back in 1750.

Ms Jones, from Aberglasney in Wales, inherited the one of a kind dish as a family heirloom from Germany.

She has been advised that it is worth £100,000 ($160,000) - a record price for a plate on the show.

The Antiques Roadshow has been on British television screens since 1979.
