Bonhams has announced that it will feature the Exmoor Classic Cars Museum's collection as part of its Beaulieu Sale on September 8.
The UK auction will see the entirety of the museum's collection sold, which includes 10 cars, 13 motorbikes and an array of assorted automobilia. The museum began life over 12 years ago as the retirement project of Stephen Johns, an entrepreneur who once ran a pyjama business in Yorkshire.
Bonhams' Tim Schofield commented: "The Exmoor Classic Car Museum could be described as every motoring enthusiast's dream. Museums like it don't really tend to exist today. When you walked through the doors it was like walking into some forgotten past."
Highlighting the collection will be a 1972 Ferrari 246GTS Dino Spyder, which is expected to make £100,000-200,000 in the Hampshire sale. Following this will be a 1927 Bugatti Type 40 Tourer, estimated at £80,000-100,000, and a 1923 Rolls Royce 20hp Doctor's Coupe by Mitchells of Nottingham, which will bring £38,000-45,000.
Among the motorbikes on offer will be an 1898 Phebus 2 3/4hp motor tricycle, which is capable of a staggering 30mph and resembles a pushbike more than a modern motorcycle. It will sell with a £30,000-35,000 estimate, having recently been restored by the current owner.
One of the most bizarre lots in the auction comes from a 1947 Dot 122cc AA Tri-Car, which was created by Dot Motorcycles for the Automobile Association (AA) as a replacement for the BSA motorcycle combinations it used at the time, before being discontinued after just six months. A unique example, it will sell for £3,000-4,000.
Paul Fraser Collectibles will be bringing you the results of this sale as soon as they happen. See more of the latest from the world of car collecting in our dedicated classic cars news section, along with some great investment advice.
