Triple White VW Beetle coming to auction for $42,100

A rare opportunity to own a Triple White VW Beetle presents itself on September 1

A rare Triple White model is among two rare VW Beetles coming to auction in the UK next month.

The Triple White Beetle will appear alongside a La Grande Bug at the Historics at Brooklands sale on September 1.

order for US dealerships

Late in the 1970s VW gave each of its US dealerships the option to sell the Triple White and Triple Black Beetles, with each dealership offered just one vehicle of each type. If the dealership declined the offer, the German-built cars were not produced.

Such models are subsequently extremely rare, with this Triple White having the added attraction of just 429 miles on the clock.

The convertible bears the majority of its original features, including factory-fitted air conditioning, although new spark plugs, injectors and tyres have been fitted.

The 1975 left hand drive La Grande Bug has just 242 miles on the clock and has never been registered in the UK or US.

The ancona blue vehicle comes with the full array of features typical of La Grande Bugs, including colour co-ordinated carpets, rack-and-pinion steering and electronic fuel injection.

"Stored in a heated, dehumidified garage with a no-expense-spared cover commissioned to protect the paintwork, everything about the car is original, even the starting instructions on the steering wheel," states the auction house, a factor sure to heighten its appeal with collectors.

Both vehicles have estimates of £24,000-27,000.

The Historic Auto Group's price index of leading classic cars has grown in value by 10.33% since the beginning of the year.
