'Spicy' Lafite 1982 highlights Christie's fine wine, whisky and spirits auction
Château Mouton also makes an appearance alongside classic drams from The Macallan and Bowmore
Later this month, Christie's is offering another sale of rare and collectible bottles in their Finest and Rarest Spirits Including a Magnificent Collection of Whisky and Other Fine Wines auction - something of a mouthful in itself.
In just under 500 lots, the auctioneer presents an impressive collection of Scotch single malt whiskies including representatives from Talisker, Mortlach, The Macallan, Bowmore, Glenlivet, Ardbeg and Springbank.
Some of the better lots include single bottles of The Macallan-1946 (Macallan-Glenlivet Ltd, listed at £1,000-2,000), Macallan-Glenlivet 33 Year Old-1945 (Gordon & MacPhail Sherry Wood expected to bring £1,000-£1,500 and Macallan-Glenlivet-1938 (Gordon & MacPhail valued at £1,000-£1,500).
However, it is the wine which dominates the sale, with two familiar names, and one great year in pole position for both:
A 12 bottle lot of Château Mouton-Rothschild 1982 is on offer. The wine, which is famous for its fragrant scent, sweetness, body and dry tannic finish, is on offer at £10,000-14,000.
Top lot, however, is expected to be 12 bottles of Château Lafite-Rothschild 1982 with overall excellent appearance. The levels are: base of the neck (six bottles), top of the shoulder (four), and upper-shoulder (two).
Renowned wine critic Michael Broadbent described it as a hugely impressive wine: medium-sweet, with delicious flavour and persistence. He noted its spicy bouquet and beautiful development. The lot is expected to sell for £28,000-38,000.
Unmissable for wine collectors and investors, Christie's auction, which also includes port and Champagne takes place in London on October 21.
