Fancy that... Why rare diamond jewellery is an investor's best friend
A $250,000 ring sits alongside some very affordable pieces - and could encourage long-term investors
Jewellery can be a cracking investment for collectors, combining pleasure, profit and portability. An upcoming Heritage Auction Galleries sale - on May 2 - looks set to feature several pieces which perfectly illustrate the truly staggering values that jewellery can achieve.
The leading lot underlines this - a 'fancy' coloured diamond ring. The platinum band features a marquise-cut diamond weighing a huge 11.74 carats, and is accompanied by two triangle-shaped diamonds, one weighing 1.33 carats and the other 1.26 carats.
The diamond has a "natural fancy light brownish-pink even colour" and is simply stunning. It has a breath-taking estimate of $200,000-250,000, which is undoubtedly down to the continuing boom in the diamond market. For a wealthy investor, this would make a wonderful asset.

However, Heritage has plenty offer for entry-level investors looking at something that could bring excellent returns in the long-term. A good example is a sapphire and diamond platinum ring. The centre-piece is the striking blue oval-shaped sapphire, weighing 5.40 carats.
It is beautifully contrasted with tapered diamond baguettes, which weigh 4.20 carats in total. This lovely ring only has an estimate of $5,000-7,000 - making it a modest investment for a collector with an eye on the future.
Another lot with potential consists of a pair of jade and diamond platinum bracelets. The carved, oval-shaped jade slices exhibit an unmistakable deep green colour.
They are further enhanced by 6.20 carats-worth of single-cut diamonds, which are accented by baguette-cut diamonds, weighing 2.40 carats in total. These unique adornments are likely to realise between $4,000-6,000 - another great opportunity for someone looking at a moderate investment in jewellery and diamonds.
There are many more lots available in the Heritage Auction. Hopefully, these pieces demonstrate that for only four figures, you can own some of the most popular and priceless stones in the world - with the healthy prospect of a long-term return.
