Second Yves Saint Laurent sale nets €8.9m
At €109k the 'most valuable umbrella stand in the world' was an unlikely highlight at the Paris auction
A second auction of art, furniture and other possessions from the collection of the late fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé has raised €8.9m at Christie's.
Ninety-eight percent of over 1,200 works offered at the November 17-20 sale found buyers, according to the auctioneers.

The couple built up one of the world's biggest and most private art collections over five decades.
Highlights included a set of 19th century armchairs which brought €241,000.
An unexpected hit was the sale of an umbrella holder which formerly stood in the entrance of Saint Laurent and Berge's Paris apartment. It smashed its €300-500 estimate, selling for an impressive €109,000.
It is thought to be a world record price for an umbrella stand.
Christie's has yet to publish the auction results. Highlights included a Gothic revival walnut set late 19th-early 20th century chair and artworks by Joan Miró, Frantisek Kupka and Fernand Leger.
The first sale, held in February, raised almost $550m - one of the biggest auctions Paris has seen. Proceeds from each sale will go to an AIDS research charity.
