Historic Silver King golf mascot auctions priced $9,800 in Scotland
One of only 15 known examples, this circa 1910 'Silver King Man' advertising figure is for sale
Collectors have until the end of the day to place online bids on this unique early-20th century sports mascot, which is starring in Mullock's sale of Golfing Memorabilia in Fife, Scotland.
Dated to circa 1910, the rare and historic Silver King Man advertising golf ball-headed figure is made from paper-maché and wields an "original heavy metal" gold club.
Upon the figures base is the inscription "Silver King Golf Ball," while "Patent no 208, 063 Made in England" is stamped on its base.
The figure measures 14 x 4.75 x 7 inches. According to Mullock's, the hand holding the club has been professionally restored, after damage likely caused by the heaviness of the club in contrast to the lightness of the figurine.

There are believed to be only 15 examples of this Silver King Man figurine in existence, and this is billed by the seller as "possibly one of the best examples to come on the market in recent times."
Silver King Man is auctioning at Mullock's with an estimate of £6,000-6,500 ($9,009-9,760).
Meanwhile, for collectors on the lookout for rare and historic golfing memorabilia there are presently a number of rare and valuable items for sale on the market, including two signed Tiger Woods PGA Tour baseball caps.
Also among the rarities is a signed sheet bearing the autograph of Bobby Jones (1902-1971), the only golfer to ever win all the four major golf championships in the same year, alongside the signature of Sir Gordon Richards (1904-1986) who remains the only jockey to have been knighted.
