£20k sale wins the battle of the Daleks

Two villainous Daleks from the BBC's popular sci-fi series Doctor Who conquered Bonhams

The contents of collector's wallets were exterminated at Bonhams' auction of Doctor Who memorabilia, held earlier today.

The Imperial Dalek Mk 1, sold for
£20.4k

For the first time, the Doctor's arch enemies the Daleks won the battle. Two of the mechanical baddies realised the highest amounts at the London auction.

Of the two Dalek props for sale, the pre-sale favourite eventually emerged as the runner-up.

A white Imperial Dalek Mk 2, which starred in the 1988 television adventure Remembrance of the Daleks, had gone under the hammer with an estimate of £5,000-7,000.

The once fearsome - now slightly battered - fibre glass and wood constructed robot still sold for much more, commanding a final price of £15,600.

But this wasn't enough to stop the Imperial Dalek Mk 1 from racing ahead.

Measuring 65 inches in height - slightly shorter than the white Dalek's 67 inches - the black Dalek, also featured in Remembrance of the Daleks, was estimated at just £2,500-3,500.

Perhaps scared by the Dalek's menacing plunger gun, excited bidders pushed the Dalek Mk 1's value all the way up to an Earth-conquering £20,400.

Other star lots in the sale included a tuxedo worn by 10th Doctor David Tennant in the 2007 television adventure Voyage of the Damned. It sold for £5,040.
