£220k for the 'ultimate Porsche 911'

This Porsche with a fine racing pedigree sold beside a 1971 Ferrari Dino in Derbyshire, UK

After promising "the best-looking Ferrari of its generation" and the "ultimate Porsche 911" in the run-up to its sale, H&H's auction didn't disappoint, last week.

The latter of the two, the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Lightweight (M471 Sport), was a runaway success at the sale, which was held in Derbyshire, UK.

Regarded by many as the ultimate 911, and one of just 200 of its kind made to Lightweight (M471 Sport) specification, the car enjoyed considerable rallying success in its heyday before being restored in the late-1980s.

This sought-after, Tangerine-coloured piece of Porsche history eventually drove off the auction block valued at an incredible £220,000.

Elsewhere, with an estimate of £58,000-65,000, came the 1971 Ferrari Dino 246GT - a car much longed-for by enthusiasts.

Like the Porsche, the Ferrari also boasts racing pedigree, having competed in the Ferrari Maranello Challenge Series between 1985 and 1990 and winning its class during 1988.

It enjoyed one more success at H&H, easily rolling past its higher estimate to a final price of £66,000.

Other highlights in the sale included a regal-looking 1964 Mercedes-Benz 220 SEB Coupe. The former display vehicle cruised to a respectable £16,500.
