The Jam bass guitar headlines major auction
Bruce Foxton's bass guitar led a sale dedicated to The Jam
Paul Fraser Collectibles, Monday 10 October 2016
Bassist Bruce Foxton' Epiphone Rivoli sunburst guitar headlined a major auction of The Jam memorabilia on October 8.
The lot was featured in the video for Start (1980) and realised £14,000 ($17,375).
Adam Partridge Auctioneers hosted the sale, which was made up of around 500 lots.
All were shown in a hit exhibition on the band titled About the Young Idea, which was shown in both London and Liverpool earlier this year.
Other highlights included drummer Rick Buckler's personal double gold award for A Town Called Malice (1982), which realised £10,400 ($12,912).
The song was The Jam's third number one hit in the UK and their only entry on to the US chart.
Auctioneer Chris Surfleet told Get Surrey, a local news site: "The first day was about the records as curator Den Davis had such a vast collection.
"The sale was a great success and it just goes to show how popular the band were and remain.
"We had loads of posters that were selling at three times the estimate and are now going all over the world, another testament to the band's popularity.
"We had examples from France and as far as Japan."
