Marilyn Monroe’s last photo-shoot prints to sell

An archive of around 150 prints from Marilyn Monroe’s last ever professional photoshoot will cross the block at Paddle8 Auctions on August 11.

Photographer George Barris captured the intimate shots for Cosmopolitan Magazine in June 1962 - about three weeks before Monroe died.

Many of the images are previously unpublished

The collection is split into three boxes, each of which contains between 43 and 63 prints. Each print is signed by Barris on the reverse.

Valuations range from $12,000 to $24,000 for the individual boxes. The top valuation is for a set made up of previously unseen shots.

Dean Harmeyer of Paddle8 explained to Vanity Fair: "You can tell in these photographs, which are so open and honest, that she really trusted George Barris.

"Marilyn was one of the most photographed women of that age or any age…

“She loved the camera, the camera loved her. These photographs that Barris took are really amazing because she could really feel at ease with this photographer.

“There are a number of candids that you can just see that he's catching her kind of in an off-guarded moment."

Individual prints from this famous shoot have proven popular at auction in the past, with some of the more iconic images selling for close to $7,000 apiece.
