Jewellery, memorabilia and paper: among February's 'Top 20' Collectibles

A firm has listed its Top 20 online collectibles for February including jewellery, memorabilia and paper

Online collectibles dealers occasionally release reviews of the most popular collectibles bought via internet sales and bids, and it's always interesting to see the results.

Like this chart, courtesy of The Internet Antique Shop, which has listed its top 20 categories of antiques and collectibles that sold online in February 2012.

Liz Taylor's jewellery was a big seller - and jewellery also leads this chart

TIAS has based its list on total dollar value. We've added a couple of our own collectibles market highlights, past, present and future to the below list...

1. Vintage Jewellery

Premium assets in the jewellery markets have included Elizabeth Taylor's collection which became the 'most expensive' ever auctioned when it sold for $115.9m. Even Taylor's hair has proven popular among collectors, with pieces for sale for as little as £49.95.

Big memorabilia blue chips include Marilyn Monroe, much loved star of Some Like it Hot, How to Marry a Millionaire and The Prince and the Showgirl. Big Monroe autographs for sale on the markets include this autographed cheque. It is priced at £4,950.

According to the PFC40 Autographs Index, the average value of autographs went up by 358.5% between 2000-2011. This is an average compound increase of 14.84% per annum. At present, Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong is the world's most valuable living signature, up 981.8% during those 11 years.

Great rare watches presently for sale on the collectors' markets include this Longines Men's Olympic Series Watch for just £950.00. Swiss luxury watchmaker Longines was founded in 1832 - and their iconic winged hourglass logo is the oldest registered logo for a watch company.
