Bonhams fine wine auction to focus on booming Burgundy
Bonhams Fine & Rare wine sale in London is expected to confirm the growing popularity of Burgundy
Paul Fraser Collectibles, Sunday 25 March 2012
The forthcoming Bonhams Fine & Rare wine sale on March 29 in London will focus its attention on Burgundy, featuring wines from some of the world's top producers.
The sale will include vintages from Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, Coche-Dury, Perrot-Minot, Robert Arnoux and Domaine Leflaive among others.
As we reported earlier this month, the industry's Liv-ex 100 Fine Wine Index confirms the wine market's continuing growth. The 1.16% price rise in February was attributed in part to the increasing demand for "blue chip" wines from Burgundy, meaning the Bonhams sale couldn't come at a better time for investors.
Highlights of the sale will include an exceptional collection of 1966, 1970 and 1983 Bordeaux vintages, which have remained undisturbed in the private collection of an English country house for 30 years.
Alongside these previously hidden treasures, Bonhams will offer numerous mature vintages, including a bottle of the renowned Chateau d'Yquem 1921, estimated at £4,400- 5,200, and three bottles of the 1947, valued at £2,400-3,000.
Younger clarets will also be well represented in the form of six magnums of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1996, valued at £7,000- 8,000, and two imperiales of La Mission Haut-Brion 2000, each with a pre-sale estimate of £4,000-5,000.
The sale's "wonderfully eclectic" selection will also feature a wealth of wines from Italy, Spain, Germany and Australia, along with several sought-after South African dessert wines.
"We are always pleased to be able to offer a really interesting catalogue featuring a wide range of wines which will appeal to the wine lover," commented Bonhams' international wine director Richard Harvey.
"The selection on offer in this sale will make Bonhams the most interesting wine shop in London on 29th March."
