1990 DRC wine assortment makes $50,190 at HDH auction

A 12 bottle Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) assortment from 1990 was the leading lot at Hart Davis Hart's (HDH) recent wine auction.
The original wooden case selection, featuring Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Echézeaux, Romanée-St Vivant and Grands-Echézeaux, sold within estimate for $50,190 on June 22 and 23 at the Tru restaurant in Chicago.

The world record for 1990 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti stands at the $297,179 accrued at an Acker Merrall & Condit auction in Hong Kong last September, testament to the considerable fluctuations found in the current wine market, and the considerable wealth entering the sector in China.
There were further strong Burgundy performances courtesy of Henri Jayer, with six bottles of Vosne-Romanée, Cros Parantoux 1988 making $22,705, just above their $22,000 estimate, while 12 bottles of Echézeaux 1993 sold for $23,900.
Eight bottles of 1982 Château Lafite Rothschild were among the pick of the Bordeaux, selling comfortably within estimate for $23,900.
Despite a slight drop off in sales during 2012, HDH has noted a generally upward trend in values for fine wines at its auctions during the past three years - up 19.97%. The top performing wine during those 36 months has been the 2000 Mouton Rothschild. The Bordeaux is up 72.89% in value during the period.
