'Astronomic' Patek Philippe watch could reach sky-high price in Hong Kong

Antiquorum's sale later this month could see the fine timepiece achieve $200,000

As we've reported, Antiquorum is Important Modern and Vintage Timepieces sale later this month.

It is to be led by two highly ostentatious timepieces:The Ostrich Fan Watch - an Emperor Napoleon III Presentation Czapek & Cie, which is made in 18kt gold and painted on enamel with a pearl and rose-cut diamond-set, white ostrich feather fan and a concealed watch and pencil.

The Music of Love - Repeating Musical Watch with See-Saw and Concealed Erotic Automatons by Henry Capt, made circa 1810 is an extremely fine and equally rare 18kt gold and painted on enamel, two-train, quarter-repeating musical watch with two automaton scenes.

But there are several other fantastic watches on offer.

The Patek Philippe afficionado will want to bid on the Patek Philippe Yellow Gold Ref. 5102J, Celestial, made in 2008 and sold on December 24th, 2008.

It is an extremely fine, rare and unusual astronomic, self-winding, 18kt yellow gold wristwatch with mean time indication, nocturnal sky chart of the Northern Hemisphere, moon phases and moon orbit, time of the meridian passage of Sirius and moon.

It is expected to sell for HK$1.2m-1.6m (US$160,000-200,000). Also for the Patek Philippe collector is the Patek Philippe Ref. 5004J (lot 443).

Sold on 30th March 1999, it is an important 18kt yellow gold wristwatch with split-seconds chronograph, registers, perpetual calendar, moon phases, leap year and 24 hour indication.

This is listed at HK$1m-1.4m (US$130,000-180,000). For the Breguet enthusiast, Antiquorum experts are offering the Breguet "Tourbillon Skeleton Perpetual" No. 5008V, Ref. 3755, madecirca 2008 (lot 167).

It is a very fine, rare and important limited series platinum cased wristwatch with skeletonised pink movement, visible one-minute tourbillon regulator and perpetual calendar with retrograde date.

Valued at HK$700,000-900,000 (US$ 90,000-115,000) it will go under the hammer in Hong Kong on February 26. Away from the auction, admirers of fine timepieces will be intrigued to know that a unique and fantastic watch made by Grieb & Benzinger is currently available.
