We all know that photographs do well at auction, with David Bailey and Ansell Adams being among the top sale performers. But how about vintage photography equipment?
There have been some great photography equipment auction sales in recent times. Collectors in Europe seem especially enthusiastic.
As we previously reported, a Leica 0-series camera from 1923 became the most expensive camera ever sold when it auctioned for $1.9m in Vienna, in May of last year.
And now another rare Leica camera will be auctioning in a Stockholm, Sweden. The Photographica Auction is set to take place on January 28.
![]() The Leica M4 camera (No. 1246697) was produced between 1970-71 |
This Leica M4 camera was built by the Ernst Leitz GmbH company at its original factory in Werke, Wetzlar, Germany, between 1970-71.
The camera is daubed in black paint, bears an L service seal, and is for sale with a matching Leica-Meter MR4. Even better, you not only get the camera but also its original Swedish manual, cap and ever ready case.
This retro camera is billed by the auctioneer as "a very rare and clean camera in 100% original condition... Slow shutter speeds irregular."
Despite its irregular shutter speeds, you can bet this exceptional camera will quickly get snapped-up in the forthcoming Stockholm sale.
