As we approach the 100^th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic on April 15, 5,500 artefacts from the ship, salvaged from the watery depths of the Atlantic, are being auctioned in a single lot in the US.

Bids on the items, which are estimated to achieve in the region of $189m, close on April 2, with the results announced later in the month.

Here, Arlan Ettinger, the president of Guernsey's auction house, takes us through some of the highlights, including a large section of the ship's hull.
