Amongst the decorative arts, one area of particular fascination is glassware, specifically lamps. One lamp in particular has a good chance of being the top lot at a Massachusetts auctioneer's second event of 2012.
The Exceptional Antique Auction is offering around 400 items which will go under the hammer on Saturday, February 11.
"We had a good, solid year in 2011, but signs point to an even better year in 2012," said John Fontaine, CEO of the company.
"For this sale we were fortunate to have secured quality, fresh-to-the-market consignments not just from Massachusetts, but from across the country—Illinois, Michigan, Texas, California and Washington. I'm expecting a great sale."

The lamp which has caught our eye is an 18-inch Handel reverse painted floral poppy table lamp. With a classic conical shade, it presents warm and vivid clusters of red and orange poppy flowers.
The colours are not uniform, however, as it also has green leaves and blue and pink flowers too. green and turquoise background with a single butterfly in the front.
Signed Handel, and in excellent condition, it is expected to sell for $30,000-50,000.

Glass collectors with more modest budgets may also be interested in a 26-inch Duffner & Kimberly Renaissance hanging dome lamp with bell-shaped shade. The striking border features large fuchsia medallions in amongst white and fiery orange swirls.
Major lamp auctions tend to be dominated by Tiffany, but more recent companies such as Porcelli's can create wonderful artworks in glasstoo.
