Original Casablanca movie poster to exceed $60,000 at auction?

The original movie poster for Casablanca will star at Heritage Auctions' dedicated sale on July 26.

The best of the three extant copies

The "style B" half-sheet is widely recognised as the rarest and most desirable of all Casablanca posters, and stands among the most sought-after memorabilia from the 1942 film. It differs considerably to the other printed styles, featuring a wonderful image of Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman at the centre, surrounded by the film's supporting cast.

One of just three known examples, the item at auction is said to be by far the best, with only a few small tears and a slight scratch to the "b" in the title. It provides a fantastic memento from one of history's best-loved movies, and is expected to bring $30,000-60,000.

Currently selling online at $15,000, with three weeks left to bid, it looks set to break the previous record of $38,837 for a Casablanca style B poster, achieved the last time another example appeared at auction.

Also featuring in the auction is a fantastic example from the golden age of Mickey Mouse posters. Released in 1932 - the same year Walt Disney was presented with a special Academy Award for his creation of Mickey Mouse - the poster advertises Wayward Canary and stands as one of only three extant examples.

Showing both Mickey and Minnie Mouse, the poster is in very fine condition following professional restoration work and is expected to make $25,000-50,000.
