Roy Rogers' cowboy memorabilia for sale in California

The Roy Rogers ranch, including his cowboy memorabilia, is to be auctioned

A fantastic selection of cowboy memorabilia is to come to auction on July 12, following a decision to sell the historic Roy Rogers ranch.

Roy Rogers was a cowboy actor best known for his TV programme, The Roy Rogers Show, which ran for over six years during the 1950s. Along with his wife, Dale Evans, Rogers also starred in more than 100 Western films, earning him the nickname "King of the Cowboys".

The California auction will see his huge horse ranch, which includes a theatre, two houses and stables, sold with a minimum bid of just $100,000. However, it is his personal possessions and memorabilia that will provide the biggest draw for collectors.

A Wells Fargo wagon that was previously housed in the Roy Rogers Museum is expected to provide the top lot of the sale. The wagon includes a green wooden boot chest that was used in some of Rogers' best-loved movies, and will auction with a starting bid of just $250.

A brilliant limited-edition print entitled, Saturday Morning TV, Anywhere, USA, by Sean Sullivan stands as the auction's only signed item. Signed by both Rogers and Dale Evans, the print includes a sketch of Roy's trusty steed, Buttermilk.

Also starring will be a magnificent one man band that the eccentric entertainer used to impress guests at his ranch. As a testament to its authenticity, the spectacular instrument has been signed by Roy Rogers Jr, who formerly owned and ran the Roy Rogers Museum in Missouri.
