Jimim Hendrix auction

Original Jimi Hendrix painting may achieve $80,000 at Bonhams

An original painting from Jimi Hendrix, his only watercolour, will feature on June 24

A rare original artwork from Jimi Hendrix, believed to be his only watercolour painting, is set to attract strong attention at Bonhams' Entertainment Memorabilia sale on June 24.

Jimi Hendrix watercolour
This painting was gifted by Hendrix to the wife of Donovan's flatmate

The vibrant Hendrix watercolour was viewed by fellow musician Donovan shortly after its creation. Speaking with Bonhams recently, he commented: "That day in the Wimbledon flat I shared with Gypsy Dave [Mills], Jimi was visiting. Jimi and I stood looking at his painting on the wall. Seeing it all these years later, the image is clearly polymorphic... with man and his gods... the mask, the eye and the horns".  It is expected to make $60,000-80,000, the highest estimate in the sale. View the Pete Doherty blood painting we have in stock here.

Also representing the musical offerings in Los Angeles will be a custom Alembic guitar, which was produced exclusively for Jerry Garcia. Dubbed Lucky Number 13, the guitar was only the 13th complete instrument made by Alembic, and is believed to have been used by the legendary frontman on his first solo album. Expected to see the second highest bids, the guitar will go to auction with a high estimate of $70,000.

Another of the sale's highlights will be provided by a signed pair of boxing gloves from Sylvester Stallone, which were donated to a charity auction shortly after filming Rocky II. The right glove has been signed "punchfully yours, Sylvester Stallone", while the left glove is addressed "to the champions of their dreams" by the star. They will sell for $7,000-10,000, along with two photographs of Stallone wearing the gloves.
