John Lennon suitcase

John Lennon's leather suitcase at auction in UK

With John Lennon collectibles up 22.10% pa, this suitcase is a chance to get a piece of the action

A leather suitcase once owned by John Lennon is being auctioned online.

The black suitcase, which features a tartan wool lined interior, is currently selling for £1,210 (approx. $1,940) at PFC Auctions' sale, which runs until May 24.

It last appeared for auction in 1996, when it was sold by Lennon's first wife Cynthia. John and Cynthia were married between 1962 and 1968, before Yoko Ono caught John's eye.

Bids currently stand at a bargain £1,200

The suitcase bears the label: "Coach Hide, A Pendragon Product - 19¼ x 30½ in. (48.9 x 77.4cm)".

It is accompanied by an Antler vanity case once owned by Cynthia.

Lennon is undoubtedly the most in-demand of the four Beatles on the collectors' markets.

John's "Bed Peace" artwork from his and Yoko Ono's 1969 anti-war "Bed-In" made £97,250 ($154,000) in November of last year, while his handwritten lyrics to A Day in The Life sold for $1.2m at Sotheby's in 2010.

Such is Lennon's appeal that more unusual items too can make significant sums. Lennon's porcelain toilet from his house in Berkshire, UK, made £9,500 ($14,780) in August 2010.

Of the four Beatles, his is the most valuable autograph, according to the PFC40 Autograph Index.

Lennon's autograph has increased in value from £695 ($1,080) in 2000 to £6,250 ($9,725) today, at the rate of 22.10% pa, the index states.

The auction includes this incredible handwritten note from John to his assistant, which includes a grocery list and instructions to obtain a photograph Lennon had paid for.

A Fender guitar once used by the Beatle is also up for grabs.
