The hearse that carried President John F Kennedy's body to Air Force One following his assassination in Dallas in 1963, sold for $176,000 at a Scottsdale, Arizona, US auction on January 22.
The vehicle transported the president's body from Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, to Love Field, where Air Force One was waiting to transport JFK's casket to Washington, DC.
"A Cadillac hearse like this would ordinarily be worth about $40,000 if not for its connection to the Kennedy assassination," McKeel Hagerty, president of classic car insurance firm Hagerty Insurance, told CNN.
Colorado-based property developer, Stephen Tebo, purchased the vehicle.
It will form part of Tebo's 400-strong classic car collection, reports the news provider.
The $176,000 figure is significantly more than the $120,000 achieved in 2011 for an ambulance of questionable provenance, said to have transported John F Kennedy's body from Air Force One to the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland.
