Handwritten Bob Dylan Lyrics Let Me Die In My Footsteps

Bob Dylan handwritten lyrics to top Bonhams auction?

$86,000-valued handwritten lyrics from Bob Dylan will provide the biggest draw in the July 3 sale

Handwritten lyrics from folk singer Bob Dylan are expected to top Bonhams' Entertainment Memorabilia auction on July 3.

Bob Dylan handwritten lyrics Let Me DIe In My Footsteps
Ignore the scrawl, these are the lyrics to an important Dylan track

Dylan penned the lyrics for the song Let Me Die In My Footsteps, which was removed from his 1963 album, The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, together with three other songs. Dylan, renowned for his artistic temperament, was understandably furious with his record label, Columbia, as he felt the omission ruined the flow of the whole album.

The tracks were eventually released by Columbia on 1991's The Bootleg Series Vols 1-3. A few pressings of the album in its original state have made their way on to the market and now stand as some of the most valuable Dylan recordings, with the two extant stereo copies valued at around $40,000.

Let Me Die In My Footsteps was also the first anti-war song written by the master lyricist, pre-dating his most famous political work, Masters of War. The lyrics, written in the child-like scrawl of a 21-year-old Bob Dylan, are expected to bring £45,000-55,000 ($70,000-86,000).

That same handwriting can be seen on Paul Fraser Collectibles' Bob Dylan autographed set list, which offers terrific value to collectors.

The auction is also set to showcase a fresh to the market collection of Michael Jackson clothing, which will be highlighted by a custom made jacket, created for the moment the King of Pop met the King of Bahrain. The Saville Row tailored coat will be offered at £8,000-12,000.

We have our own fantastic Michael Jackson owned and worn sequinned jacket available, that better captures the star's iconic style. We also have Jackson's autograph for sale and some rare strands of the legendary singer's hair.
