The King's Golden Guitar from his army days could make sweet music this month
Elvis's instrument is just one of the highlights in the auction which has a charitable side
There are a number of auctions with charity in mind which have been announced this summer.
Following on from the two put forward by Christie's which will pass on proceeds from the sales of art and wine to disaster charities in Japan, a memorabilia auction is now being scheduled to assist tornado victims in Joplin, Missouri.
The event is being put together by Orange Amplifiers, which has successfully drawn donations from some of the biggest names in music.
One of the best lots is a limited edition Union Jack covering of the Orange Rockerverb 50 MkII head and 2x12 cab. Only 50 sets of the Amp & Speaker were made for worldwide distribution and only 12 sets are being sent to the USA.
This is expected to bring £2,600 - £3,200.
The charity auction piggybacks on the Fame Bureau's summer auction. The latter contains some very high grade pieces from the late greats of music (including a number of items signed by the recently deceased Amy Winehouse).
One of the highlights from this section is an amazing collection of Elvis Presley items from his army period includes the golden guitar seen clearly on a number of photographs as Elvis plays piano for friends.
During this period Elvis would relax at friends and family's houses and would listen to and play music. There are many documented photographs of Elvis playing pianos, guitars and accordions during his army years.
The guitar in question is an Alden Solid body copper/bronze finish guitar produced circa 1958 derived from the Harmony H44 Stratatone. The Alden has a distinctive "A" emblem on the headstock.
It is expected to achieve £20,000-25,000 ($41,000) in the sale which takes place on August 24 in London. Collectors interested in gathering collectibles related to The King will also wish to know that some of Elvis's hair from his famous army cut is available elsewhere.
