Today in history... Apple, Inc becomes incorporated
January 3, 1977: years before the iPhone, Apple has its own special piece of memorabilia...
What better way to begin the New Year than by looking back at a company which has shaped people's lives like no other over the past decade?
Established in Cupertino, California on April 1, 1976, and incorporated the following year, Apple - co-founded by the entrepreneur Steve Jobs - is today as synonymous with style as it is technology.
Looking back, however, it is difficult to image how stylish people thought the very first Apple Mac Plus computer was, when it was introduced in January, 1986.
The computer certainly has its charms. In fact, the very first Apple Mac model is very special, and a valuable piece of memorabilia.
That same month, in 1986, it was gifted to Gene Roddenberry, the science-fiction visionary and creator of the iconic television series, Star Trek.
Years later, when the computer auctioned in 2009, it far exceeded its $800-$1,200 estimate, reportedly beaming up to a value of $8,260.
Later this year, Julien's auctions will be holding an auction of Star Trek memorabilia in the Summer, celebrating the franchise's recent successful rebirth.
