Important Modern art collection worth $21 million highlights Christie's autumn calendar

An extraordinary and important collection of Modern art will feature in sales throughout November

A highly important art collection spanning the full range of significant 20^th century art movements will appear at Christie's this autumn.

The outstanding collection; 'Property from a Distinguished West Coast Collection' will be offered across three separate sales in New York. It features a wealth of iconic museum-quality works with a combined estimated value of more than $21 million.

Christie's International Director for Post-War and Contemporary Art Laura Paulson described the collection as -

"... one of the most comprehensive and highly selective collections of Modern and Contemporary Art in private hands today. Together, the works constitute an authoritative survey of the most important artists and major movements from the 20th century."

It covers includes work from the most sought-after artistic movements of the last 100 years including Surrealism, Modernsim, Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art, and features masterpieces by the likes of René Magritte, Georgia O'Keeffe, Joan Miró, and Marc Chagall.

Highlights of the sale, of which there are many, include Magritte's 'La fin du monde' (1963) with an estimated value of $4 - $6 million, 'La comere de revue' (1908-9) by Kees Van Dongen priced at $2.5 - $3.5 million and two works by Georgia O'Keeffe - 'My Autumn' ($2 - $3 million) and 'Black Iris' ($1.2 - $1.8 million).

Expectations for the collection are understandably high. According to Paulson -

"As witnessed at our May Evening sales in New York, and our October Evening Sales in London, the appetite among major collectors for the best examples of works from the major movements remains very strong, and continues to drive exciting prices in the saleroom."

The works will be sold across three sales, all taking place in New York next month - the Impressionist and Modern Art Evening sale on November 1, the Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening sale on November 8 and the Important American Paintings sale on November 30.
