Discover the Asset that beat the Property Boom
"Alternative Investments?" "Emotional Assets?" - The world of High-End Collectibles comes under many names, and can offer fabulous rewards. But you need to know what you are doing...
There has been a great deal of positive press regarding High-End Collectibles over the last few months.
Just last week MSN.com ran an article titled "Things that beat the property boom", highlighting Rare Stamps and Autographs & Memorabilia as great investments.
According to MSN autographs have shown an average compound increase of 12.9% over an 11 year period.
Moneywise, a popular UK finance magazine, wrote about 'Assets to hold on to in 2010.'
Included were Rare Coins where "demand for high-grade rarities is still outstripping supply,"
Also Fine Wine, where the Liv-Ex trading index showed a yearly change of around 9.5% in the 12 months to October.
And again Rare Stamps where "we are beginning to see an influx of new money from investors."
InvestmentWeek, a UK website specialising in News and analysis on investment, equities, and the UK fund management market, also featured an article on 'Alternative Investments.'
Rare stamps were featured again: "A stable, long-term investment"
Wine; where "Asia middle classes are entering the market. This adds demand so prices can only go up."
It's all great news, all very positive...
So what's the catch?
If you are considering entering these markets we say 'go for it'.
But with one serious proviso.
There is one key to this type of investment. Knowledge and expertise.
You wouldn't enter the stock market without doing your research.
The High-End Collectibles markets should be shown the same respect.
Knowledge is King...

Don't just take my word for it...
This is Robert Burns' personal bible.
Paul Fraser Collectibles saw the value in Burns' personal Bible, purchasing it in 2009.
It has since been sold for £25,000.
This week we received an email from another Collector: "I was very sorry to miss this", he said.
He has since offered £35,000.
If the new owner accepts this offer he'll see a 40% return, in less than one week.
And that's by no means a one-off...
We have numerous items available in stock that are unique.
Their value is largely subjective and they could sell for much more than we have them in stock at; just like the Burns' bible.
Take Lenin's death mask, for example. One of 14 made on the night of his death.
This is believed to be the only example ever to have left Russia. The majority of the others are all in Museums in the former Soviet Union.
What price can you put on such an historic artifact?
How much would a Russian Billionaire be prepared to pay?
Lenin's death mask is actually available at just £35,000 ($57,750)
And then there is Henry VIII's personal divorce plea written in 1529, a totally unique document that changed the course of British history forever.
The only comparable item is held in the Vatican Secret Archives, a letter from the members of the House of Lords supporting the divorce, sent to the Pope, written in 1530.
The Vatican sell copies of that letter for $75,000 each. Collectors and other Museums have been buying them.
So what price for Henry VIII's personal appeal written One Year prior? Probably not as much as you think.
