1970 Ford GT40 Mk III Recreation

Unique classic Ford GT40 'finest recreation' car auctions in Kent, UK

Ford's classic GT40 is remembered for Le Mans - but how about owning your own replica car?

We recently reported on a sale of Ford's successor to its iconic GT40 in Florida, but how about owning - if not an original - one of the finest recreations of a Ford Mk III GT40?

That's precisely what's rolling onto the auction block at Mercedes-Benz World, Kent, UK, next month.

This replica GT40 was professionally built by John Arnold Motorsport, whose intention was to fully replicate the classic Von Karajan Mk III in left-hand-drive (you can see the original Von Karajan in the Petersen Automotive Museum in LA).

This exceptional replica classic car has been built upon a modified GTD chassis. It also boasts a superb finish and very accurate attention to detail on the part of its makers.

While KVA Mk III enthusiasts might comment on the incorrect Marchal lamps and chromed brass framed opening side windows, most collectors will no doubt overlook these as quirks unique to John Arnold's lovingly-crafted recreation.

The car's catches and openers are as original, including rear clip catches from a BAC 1-11 aircraft as were originally used. Works to this car include the re-addition of remanufactured over-riders modified from a Ford Anglia, as used on this car in the 1960s.

Since it was first seen at the Nurburgring in May 1964, the Ford GT40 remains synonymous with Le Mans. Collectors buoyed by those memories will no doubt want to get a closer look at John Arnold's GT40 replica. It is auctioning with a £58,000 - £68,000 presale estimate.

Meanwhile, if you're a collector on the lookout for an original classic car then you should definitely take a look at our stock of classic cars for sale. You can find them listed on our brand new website, store.paulfrasercollectibles.com.
