Unique and 'most significant' Cadillac of its era auctions at Amelia Island

This Cadillac V-16 All-Weather Phaeton is for sale at Amelia Island estimated at $350,000-450,000

Early 20th century classic cars, from noted collections or with great celebrity provenance, have been enjoyed great success in the collectibles markets this year.

Recent examples include Marlene Dietrich's Rolls Royce, which sped to $524,000 in Scottsdale, Arizona, in January.

A more recent success was the 1912 Oldsmobile Limited Five-Touring classic car from the feted Milhous Americana collection. The vintage automobile rolled to $3.3m, a new World Record price for an Oldsmobile.

And next up for sale is this stunning 1933 Cadillac V-16 All-Weather Phaeton. The car will appear for sale in Amelia Island, Florida, next Friday (March 9). It is billed as "one of the most significant Cadillacs of the classic era."

The classic 1933 Cadillac V-16 All-Weather Phaeton car

Chassis No. 5000116 has coachwork by Fleetwood, which happens to be a strictly one-off design. This unique car was later restored by Fran Roxas, the legendary coachbuilder. Not surprisingly, this car has since won a number of First Place Concours Awards.

Beneath its bonnet is a 452 CID OHV V-16 engine, producing 185 BHP at 3,400 RPM complimented by 3-speed manual transmission and 4-wheel vacuum-assisted drum brakes.

The 1933 Cadillac V-16 All-Weather Phaeton's uniqueness is matched by its provenance, having been held in the collection of well-known classic car enthusiast Roy Warshawsky and his friend James Groendyke.

The car will auction with a $350,000-450,000 presale estimate. Watch this space for more news on the sale.
