Bruce Springsteen’s '$390,000' Chevy thunders down the road to auction

The Born In The USA singer’s classic convertible is up for grabs in an online sale, this month

A 1957 Chevrolet once owned by rocker Bruce Springsteen is expected to attract plenty of interest among classic car and memorabilia investors in an online auction taking place this month.

The stunning looking yellow convertible was the artist's first vehicle, bought in 1975, and includes orange flames along the bonnet and sides.

Springsteen is thought to have composed hits such as Thunder Road, Backstreets and Born to Run in the car.

He sold the vehicle in 1976 when Springsteen found that its striking appearance brought him too much attention.

Writing in his autobiography Songs, Springsteen states: "In '70's New Jersey, the car was still a powerful image. That summer I bought my first set of wheels for two thousand dollars.

"It was a '57 Chevy with dual, four-barrel carbs, a Hurst on the floor and orange flames spread across the hood."

It has been put up for sale by Gotta Have Rock and Roll. Bids are accepted until March 25, with the starting price set at $390,000.

The Boss’ first car: worth more than the $2,000 he paid for it

The winning bidder will also receive the original vehicle registration, temporary insurance card and Allstate insurance card with Springsteen's name and address.

The auction features a number of other items once owned by the man known to many as The Boss. They include a Fender stage-used guitar, which has a starting price of $60,000, and a concert worn flannel shirt for a more modest $700.
