1969 Maserati zooms to £39,124 at Sandown, UK
While the rare 1960 Birdcage sold in Monaco, another classic Maserati auctioned across the pond
We may have been wrapped up in the excitement of RM and Bonhams' Monaco auctions, last weekend, but you don't need to travel all the way to the Mediterranean to buy a great classic car.
Auction house Barons' saleroom at Sandown Park, UK, was packed with classic car enthusiasts on April 27.
According to a Barons statement, the sale "proved that well-presented cars will find ready homes and, where a car catches the eye of a couple of determined bidders, strong prices will be achieved."

These strong prices included a number of cars which accelerated way past their estimates.
A lovely little 1947 MG TC Midget selling for nearly double its estimate, at £19,121, and a rare and stunning LHD 1969 Maserati Ghibli Coupe also generated enthusiastic bidding. It sold for £39,124.
Won by a Danish buyer, the Maserati's final price was some £12,000 over its top estimate.
The success of both cars was down to the vendors opting for "a very reasonable reserve which meant an appealing guide price.

"And, as so often happens with a good car at an attractive estimate, the end result was an impressive sale price," said Barons.
Meanwhile, Jaguar enthusiasts and collectors were spoilt for choice at the Jaguar Heritage element of Barons' event, for which more than 30 examples of the marque were assembled.
The top-selling "big cat" was the fine 1974 E-type S3 Roadster (£43,594), followed by an elegant 1948 3.5 Saloon (£43,420).
A very well presented pair of late 1950's XK150s also featured: a 1958 DHC (£39,124) and a 1959 FHC (£36,330).
In other Maserati news, a rare 1960 Maserati Tipo 61 Birdcage featured in RM's inaugural Sporting Classics of Monaco auction, last weekend. It set a new World Record for a Birdcage, bringing $3,343,648.
