This rare Beatles Hard Day's Night poster is on sale at a US music memorabilia auction
Paul Fraser Collectibles, Sunday 8 January 2011
January 20, 2012 will see a mammoth Music Memorabilia Auction in New York.
Stars of the auction will include the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, the Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd. Also for sale are various concert posters - tipped to be a big collecting niche in 2012 - Woodstock memorabilia and rare records. Around 300 lots will appear for sale.
The auction will be jointly arranged by Gary Sohmers, a Pop Culture expert, who has appeared on 13 seasons of US TV's Antiques Roadshow as an antiques appraiser. He also curates regular scheduled auctions of toys, pop culture, comic books, Hollywood collectibles and music memorabilia.
Among this sale's highlights is a Hard Day's Night movie poster, The Beatles' first-ever movie which has since been described as "the Citizen Kane of jukebox musicals." In 1964, a soundtrack LP was released to accompany the film.
A Hard Days Night memorabilia is rare. Only between eight and 10 copies of this LP cover signed by all four Beatles are known to exist - of which Paul Fraser Collectibles has one for sale. Also look out for various Hollywood costumes and photographs, including a collection of original Harpo Marx photographs. Watch this space for more news on the January 20 sale.
