A poster advertising one of the Beatles' historic Cavern Club gigs in Liverpool has sold for £27,500 at Christie's Pop Culture: Rock & Roll Memorabilia auction in London.
In doing so it beat its high estimate of £15,000 by 83.3%.

The fine price can be attributed to the unique nature of the item - the colourful handpainted poster is thought to be the only one ever produced. It provides a tangible glimpse into the heavy workload the Fab Four faced in their early days, playing twice during the Friday lunchtime session.
The November 1962 poster was produced a month after the Beatles released their first single, Love Me Do. The Beatles appeared 292 times at the Cavern Club, having made their debut in February 1961.
Beatles memorabilia is consistently reaching new heights. The value of signed photos containing all four Beatles signatures has soared from £5,500 ($8,770) in 2000 to £24,000 ($38,270) in 2011, according to the PFC40 Autograph Index - a rise of 14.33% pa.

A Jeff Beck 1951 "blonde" Fender Telecaster, used in his People Get Ready video from 1989, sold within estimate for £37,250 at the June 12 auction, while a shirt worn by the Rolling Stones' Brian Jones made £25,000, trouncing its £1,400 valuation.
