Beatrix Potter's The Tale of Peter Rabbit

Peter Rabbit

Peter Rabbit scampers ahead of Pooh and Harry Potter at Heritage

A first edition of Beatrix Potter's most famous work could bring $50k

Heritage's book sale has a number of great books on offer, including a Fourth Folio of Shakespeare's plays and a first edition of Darwin's On the Origin of Species.

However, there are also a number of classic children's books available. These include a first edition of A A Milne's When we were very young, and a signed edition of his famous classic The House at Pooh Corner.

These are expected to bring up to $15,000 and $20,000 respectively.

Also appearing is a more recent classic: a signed copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, with an estimate of $15,000.

There is another signed copy of the book currently available (not at Heritage) to buy outright.

Ahead of all of these, however, is a first edition of Beatrix Potter's famous work, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, which has a guide price of $50,000. The live section of Heritage's sale takes place on February 11.

We recently used the anniversaries of Beatrix Potter's death and A A Milne's birth to look at collectible books and memorabilia associated with the writers.
